We had our prop fall off !!

Apparently when we went to the boat yard they say this happens all the time and indeed another boat was having a new prop his having fallen off as well.

This is a very worrying situation. Again the boat yard said they had one fail within 4 months.

There appears to be a serious design fault which seems to go back many years.

Has anyone else had this problem??

    Hi Michael,

I have heard of people losing their props, but hadn't realised that it occurred frequently.  I have a Volvo saildrive and propeller.  It hasn't happened to me but you have made me think!

It happened to me a dozen or more years ago on a sailing school boat on the Dart. Anchoring mid-channel with a cruise boat approaching was a learning experience.  That was a (then newish) Bavaria so it's likely it was a Volvo, but I can't be sure. I'm afraid I don't remember a detailed explanation.

I had to have a new propeller in March as it had debonded, not actually fallen off yet This is the second time in 5 years. Apparently a regular occurrence according to Gosport Boat Yard.
