  • St Vaast Rally - Jubilee Weekend 2nd - 4th July 2012

With 12 boats registered to attend, this looked like being our best cross-channel rally so far. However, the weather gods were to beat us yet again with the start of what became the worst early summer I can remember. With strong winds, rough seas AND poor visibility forecast, several of the boats decided to take advantage of the favourable weather the day before the official rally start. Thus, four of the motor boats set off

  • HYC Easter Rally 6th - 9th April 2012

Just for a time I thought the weather might beat us again, just as it had for our club rallies at Easter for the last two years. But NO, the weather gods smiled upon us and we all set off on the tide on Good Friday. The sailing boats on a two tide strategy via Poole, and the motor boats on a one tide dash to Portland. Our rallies are increasing in numbers (very gratifying

  • Frostbite 2012 - 10th/11th March 2012

If ever a rally was badly named this was it! The weather was magnificent (although not too spirited for sailing). The sun appeared whilst we were all on passage Saturday and the rest of the weekend felt like summer. Having been asked to capture some rally photographs for possible inclusion in the June edition of "Motor Boat and Yachting" we all left the marina together and our boat "Tallulah" operated as the platform for some

With the Lightship now fully open, we were able to hold our first monthly club night of 2012 on Friday March 9 th in the Sports Bar. 32 HYC members came along to hear an excellent talk about GAFIRS (Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service). • Trafalgar Dinner, Royal Naval Submarine Museum, Gosport Friday 21st October 2011

And what a night it was! The evening commenced with tours on board the WWII submarine HMS Alliance. The museum manager, Andrew Poole, showed around two groups of around 20 people. We also had the annual Trafalgar Rally visiting Haslar from the Portland Yacht Club and they all joined us for the event. They managed everything in moderation as tides dictated a 6.00 am start the following morning for their return

  • Beaulieu Rally September 2011

Well, organised we may have been but nobody could have predicted the fabulous weather that greeted our arrival at Bucklers Hard. We tied up on the mid river pontoon just upstream of the marina and settled down to enjoy the sun. In total we had eight boats with the usual 50/50 split of sail and power. Vessels were: Sail - Sentosa, Kraken, Kiskadee & Disarray Power -

    Osborne House Rally 23rd 24th July 2011

Well the weather has finally been kind to us! Nine boats gathered at Island Harbour Marina on the Isle Of Wight for this years Osborne House Classical concert and firework display. Six of our boats arrived on the tide on Friday afternoon and, following a late afternoon beer and wine session on "Tallulah", we walked to the Folly Inn for our evening meal and entertainment. A bright Saturday morning

  • Frostbite Rally 5th/6th March 2011

Well! The weather was just glorious and all 13 boats had arrived by midday on the Saturday. With our usual near on 50/50 split of motor and sail, we had a great cross section of members vessels from Paul Wood's 18ft 10in yacht to new members Chris & Pat Porter's 54 ft motor cruiser. The Island Harbour Staff were very welcoming and managed to group our fleet close
