Talk: "Maritime and Coastguard Agency" by Tom Barnett

Join us at The Hornet Services Sailing Club for the first of our new year's Friday evening talks. Tom Barnett of HM Coastguard Operations at the Joint Rescue Control Centre based in Swanwick will give the talk.

The talk with compose of a brief on the organisation and structure of His Majesty's Coastguard and how it provides its services both on a national and international basis. After this he will focus specifically on the South Coast where the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) operates 'Solent Coastguard' from, touching on how Search and Rescue is coordinated, what to expect (and do!) when contacting them when afloat or on the coast and some safety guidance and recommendations. There will be opportunity to ask any questions regarding the Coastguard and find out more about the role of the JRCC and the various Search and Rescue units they utilise.

This is an ideal talk to attend ahead of our planned visit to JRCC on 22nd April 2023.
