Talk: "Fire Risks Aboard" by Ian MacGregor and others

Ian and Sharon MacGregor will be presenting a talk on 'Fire Risks Aboard' with contributions from others. Ian and Sharon are experienced sailors who have been members of the Club for many years. Ian is also trained in aeronautical fire fighting in association with his career as a helicopter pilot. They experienced a fire on board their sailing yacht a year ago and would like to share what happened in the hope of helping others. Their talk will explain the equipment they had on board, the circumstances of the fire, how they dealt with it, the lessons learned and a lot more.
Cathy Hems, another experienced member of the Club, will describe how she and Garry narrowly avoided a fire due to an overheating battery charger on their motor boat. Cathy will talk about the possible causes, the actions they took, the consequences and the lessons they learned amongst other aspects.
Colin McLean, Assistant Manager at Haslar Marina, will conclude the session with a discussion on the Haslar Marina fire event Emergency Response Plan.
The talk will take place in The Fabrosa Room at The Hornet Services Sailing Club.
There is now increased security at The Hornet and only those who book can attend and you must bring either your driving licence or your passports.
Those who wish to have a meal before the talk (from the bar menu) will be able to order one in the Hornet Clubhouse from 18:00.
