Talk: "The work of KHM Portsmouth" by Andrew Burns, Friday 13th March 2026

Andrew Burns is Assistant King's Harbour Master with KHM Portsmouth and has kindly offered to come and describe the work KHM conduct in the Port of Portsmouth. 

Portsmouth is one of the busiest harbours in the country with around 130,000 significant movements a year. There are also around 5000 recreational craft which moor in the harbour and many more visit each year.

KHM Portsmouth is the regulatory authority of the Dockyard Port of Portsmouth. The Dockyard Port is a busy area of The Solent; home to a strategic base of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth International Port and the main shipping route to/from the Port of Southampton. The Dockyard Port is used extensively by commercial, leisure and recreational mariners. HM Naval Base Portsmouth is the home base of almost two-thirds of the Royal Navy's surface ships, including the flagship aircraft carriers HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince Of Wales.

Andrew will talk about the workings of the Kings Harbour Master, port safety, Portsmouth VTS and other historical and interesting aspects of the day-to-day running of the harbour and Solent. 

The talk will take place in the meeting room at the Haslar Marina office. Please use the labelled entrance door at the back of the office building, on the path that leads down to the marina gate.
