Talk: "Solo Circumnavigating the Arctic Circle" by Ella Hibbert

This talk "Solo Circumnavigating the Arctic Circle" is by Ella Hibert. Ella is a 26 year old RYA Yachtmaster Instructor who wanted to be the first woman to solo sail the infamous NorthWest Passage. After extensive research she extended her plan into a campaign to become the first person to solo circumvaigate the entire Arctic Circle - and to do so in a single summer season. Ella's talk will include the environmental challenges that the Arctic is facing due to global warming and man-made climate change. 

Ella says:

"It will be my absolute pleasure to chat to you all about this upcoming voyage - what it means to me, personally and professionally, as well as what it will mean to the future of the Arctic Ocean and its inhabitants. It will be an immense feat, the first of its kind, made achievable only by the increasing devastation of man-made global warming on our world's most fragile region (and three years of extensive planning!). To be the first person to set a sailing record so harrowing will be incredibly bittersweet; truth be told, if we were doing enough to preserve the Arctic sea ice, my voyage wouldnt even be achievable. 

So, come to the talk and we can chat about sailing, expeditions, inspirations, set-backs, dreams, and ambitious, together. I look forward to seeing you there! "

Ella has dedicated this sail to charities Polar Bears International and Ocean Conservancy and the Club will be making a donation to them.

This year we are trying a new venue and this meeting will be held in The Conference Room in Haslar Marina's Office. Just go into the Marina Office and ask one of the staff and they will show you to The Conference Room.

Those who wish can buy a drink and/or a meal at The Creek restaurant over the road either before the talk at 18:00 (or earlier) or after at 20:30. Please make your own booking with The Creek either by phoning 023 9400 2461 or using their website https://thecreekhaslar.co.uk  and if you are eating before the talk explain that you will be attending the Haslar Yacht Club talk which starts at 19:00. If you intend to have a meal after the talk they would like you to place your order by 20:30 please.

You are welcome to buy a drink in The Creek restaurant before the talk and take it over to the The Conference Room.
