Talk: 'A Solent Cruise: Part 2' by Dave Allport

Sail and Motor Cruising with Royal Lymington Yacht Club - Royal Lymington  Yacht Club, Lymington, Hampshire

Join us at Gosport Sea Cadets boathouse opposite Hornet Sailing Club for a talk on cruising in the Solent from Dave Allport MBE. Park in Haslar marina car park, walk over the bridge (towards The Hornet) and turn immediately right then turn right again to get to the Sea Cadets boathouse.

Dave Allport retired from the Royal Navy in 2006 as a Warrant Officer 1, with over 34 years service. He was awarded the MBE in 2004 in recognition of service to the Royal Navy and community charity work particularly Guide Dogs for the Blind. On retirement Dave moved to the Queens Harbour Master staff as a Vessel Traffic Services Operator in the busy port of Portsmouth and served for 17 years, before finally retiring in July 2022. 

In this talk Dave describes the cruise from the Round Tower in Portsmouth to Portsmouth International Port with a commentary on the sights and history of the Solent and Portsmouth Harbour. Lifejackets and sea sickness pills will be available!!

We will be able to meet at The Creek restaurant for a pre-talk drink and those that wish can pre-order evening dinner at The Creek after the talk. The itinerary for the evening is:

18:00                  Meet at The Creek if you wish to have a pre-talk drink at member's own cost

19:00 - 20:00      Talk in Sea Cadets boathouse

20:00 - 20:30      Q & A 

20:30 - 23:00      Evening dinner at The Creek for those that have pre-ordered a meal
