Folly Dinghy Dash to Newport mid-week Rally 2024

20th - 22 August

The Folly Inn: Reopening date for popular Isle of Wight pub confirmed after extensive refurbishment - HampshireLive

Join us for some for fun at the top of the River Medina.  Nestling near the picturesque eastern bank of the river, The Folly mid-river pontoons offer a peaceful destination with the Folly Inn available via their water taxi (some rafting-up may be necessary). It's also ideally situated as a starting point for a trip up the river by kayak or dinghy!

On the Tuesday evening (20th August) we have booked tables to dine at The Folly Inn with its lovely views across the Medina.

On the Wednesday we will be heading up river to Newport so bring your own kayak, canoe, dinghy or tender and outboard with a little extra fuel to top up in the lunch break. We will be departing the Folly at about 10:30 am to catch the tide upriver. Our final destination is The Bargeman's Rest where we will be stopping for lunch and a drink before taking the afternoon tide back to The Folly.  For those who don't want to make the journey by river you could always get the water taxi over to The Folly and walk up the banks of the river - but let's face it, a dinghy dash is more fun!

After a pontoon party on Wednesday evening we will will have a 'Bring & Share' meal on the pontoon or on boats if the weather is inclement.

Most of us will be moored to the mid-river pontoons but there may be some berths may be available on the walk-ashore moorings on the east bank, please let me know if you require one by email to events@haslaryachtclub.co.uk

On the Thursday, you can take your time returning to Haslar, perhaps via a breakfast or lunch stop in Osborne Bay - it's up to you!

A lead boat will be available to help and advise. We will be using VHF Channel 77 as an inter-club frequency for the weekend although monitoring on Ch11 (Portsmouth Harbour) and Ch 12 (Southampton VTS) as appropriate together with Channel 16 is advised.
