Fort Blockhouse Tour

This will take place on Friday 17th June from 10.45 - 13.00. This tour is only suitable for mature adults.

Fort Blockhouse is a military establishment in Gosport, Hampshire, England, and was home to the Royal Navy Submarine Service from 1904 1999 under the name of HMS Dolphin. It is surrounded on three sides by water and provides the best view of the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour. It is unique in two respects - firstly, it was built over a number of centuries. Secondly, it is thought to be the oldest fortified position in the United Kingdom that is still in active military use.

Take a tour with a submariner of their former base and learn about the fascinating history and role in protecting one of the UK's most important harbours. Also take the opportunity to see the Submarine Memorial Chapel and the Harold Wylie paintings in the Officer's Mess.

There is no charge for this event, as the guides give their time for free, but donations to the "Royal Navy Submarine Museum Alliance Appeal" would be much appreciated.
