'Maritime History at its Best' - A guided tour of the Historic Dockyard

A guided walking tour led by members of the Portsmouth Royal Dockyard Historical Trust.

The tour will include 'The Dockyard Story' Exhibition, experience how Portsmouth Dockyard led the world in shipbuilding and repair for not only Nelsons Wooden ships, to Iron and Steel, through both World Wars, and on to the Falklands Conflict of the 1980s. Come see and touch the buildings and Artefacts that defined Maritime Britain through the Ages. Hear its history from the 18th, 19th and 20th Century to the present day.

Let past dockyard workers tell you their story.

Your visit will include.

  • Visit starts with a tour of The dockyard Story Exhibition. 50 Minutes approx.
  • Break for lunch (not included)  Either bring your own or use one of the local restaurants.
  • Brief history of the great fire of 1776
  • Followed by 90 Minute tour of the Trusts private Archive collection of Historic Maritime Artefacts.

*An easy walk on the flat at your own pace but does include stairs once inside No10 Storehouse.

Tour DOES NOT include the Historic ships.

A £5 donation is suggested towards the Historic Dockyard Trust.  This should be made on the day.

Note: Due to the limitation in the number of people able to attend, this event is initially only open to Members.
