Talk: "Seagrass Locations in The Solent" by Emily Stroud

Talk: "Seagrass Locations in The Solent" by Emily Stroud, Friday 10th April 2026
Our good friend, marine biologist Emily Stroud, Marine Nature Recovery Manager with Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, would like to come and give us an update on how their Solent Seagrass Restoration Project is doing. As part of HIWWT's work they conducted a survey of boat users to find out how much we knew about the vital habitat of the seagrass meadows. One of their findings was that we wanted more information on where these seagrass meadows are located in The Solent. Boat users wanted to be able to easily understand where they are so they could plan their journeys and avoid anchoring in seagrass meadows, thereby protecting these vital natural habitats.
Emily will be presenting the map they have prepared showing seagrass locations and will also describe how we can help further by noting any new seagrass beds we find and how to notify the Trust.
This free educational talk will describe these habitats, how we can help save them and the work the HIWWT are undertaking in this project with their various partners.
"Seagrass meadows are among the Solent's most important marine habitats. They support marine biodiversity, provide nursery grounds for fish and invertebrates, improve water quality, and store carbon. Protecting these habitats relies not only on management and policy, but also on the everyday knowledge, choices, and cooperation of boat users."
The talk will take place in The Fabrosa Room at The Hornet Services Sailing Club.
The itinerary for the evening is:
