Talk: The Solent Seascape Project by Emily Stroud
The Solent Seascape Project
After her successful visits to Haslar Yacht Club in January 2020 and March 2021 we are pleased to welcome back marine biologist Emily Stroud, from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, to enlighten and fascinate us with details of the Solent Seascape Project.
Since the last time we saw Emily she has been promoted to Senior Engagement Officer and recently got in touch with HYC regarding an exciting new marine based project called the 'Solent Seascape Project' and the various fun activities they are offering to the public.
The projects aims are to restore, reconnect and rejuvenate four crucially important habitats in the Solent:
- Seagrass
- Salt marsh
- Native oyster reefs and
- Seabird habitat
This free educational talk will describe these habitats, how we can help save them and the work the HIWWT are undertaking in this project with their various partners.
"The Solent is a special place, with endless surprises just beneath its surface. There are vast seagrass meadows and intricate chalk reefs, as well as fascinating species like seahorses, thresher sharks, and cuttlefish."
The talk will take place in The Fabrosa Room at The Hornet Services Sailing Club.
The itinerary for the evening is:
18:00 Hornet Bar opens for drinks and meals at member's own cost
19:30 - 20:30 Talk in Fabrosa room
20:30 - 21:00 Q & A
18:00 - 23:00 Bar open throughout evening
We look forward to seeing you in The Hornet on the 25th October.
