Yarmouth and Poole Rally 2026 Provisional

Yarmouth & Cobb's Quay, Poole midweek Rally 28th - 31st July 2026
We start this rally by visiting Yarmouth Harbour for 1 night on Tuesday 28th July before moving on the following morning for 2 nights in Poole. We've done this to help with the tidal gate through The Needles. If you want to attend only one of these destinations please send an email to events@haslaryachtclub.co.uk
We visit the often very busy harbour of Yarmouth most years and always enjoy this lovely spot. There is often excitement to be had in watching other people manoeuvre but the berthing staff are always very helpful. We will be holding a pontoon party at some point on Tuesday evening.
On Wednesday we head off to a new destination: Cobb's Quay at Hamworthy in Poole Harbour. The Club has not visited this marina before so we're looking forward to trying out a different place. The marina has 1130 berths and is reached via a channel with two bridges that lift to allow yachts to proceed. The Poole Bridges lift at 05:30, 06:30, 07:30, 09:30, 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 14:30, 15:30, 16:30, 17:30, 21:30, 22:30, 23:30 - Call Ch 12. There is a very nice restaurant on site, Cobb's Bar and Kitchen, which adds a Gazebo during the summer months and is where we will be eating on the first night. On the second night we'll be having a shared meal around our boats - more details later.
Around Cobb's Quay there are many natural inlets and small islands to explore so it's an ideal time to get your dinghy out. There is a bus service (No 9) that takes about 15 minutes to get to the centre of Poole town so bring your bus pass if you have one! There are some self-guided walks available around the area following the Poole Cockle Trail, leaflets will be provided on the rally or are available at Poole Museum (small charge) or they can be downloaded from the website www.pooletourism.com There are all sorts of other suggestions of things to do on this very useful website. We hope to arrange a visit to the RNLI Lifeboat College in Poole on the Thursday afternoon but this has yet to be confirmed. The cost will be advised nearer the time.
You may wish to take a trip over to Brownsea Island at some point where you can look out for the famous red squirrels and other wildlife. It's only a short trip via the Brownsea Island Ferry which runs from Poole Quay.
An early start on Friday 31st should see you safely through The Needles before the tide turns at about midday. Of course you could just stay on another day but remember: the Club's Summer Party is on Saturday 1st August and obviously you won't want to miss that!
A Rally Lead will be available to help with questions and bookings, and there are a number of other roles (see Duty Roster below) where we need volunteers to help make the rally more enjoyable. Please take a look and if you can help with a role just click on "Volunteer" or get in touch with events@haslaryachtclub.co.uk and we can explain more details.
We suggest monitoring on Ch11 (Portsmouth Harbour) and Ch 12 (Southampton VTS) as appropriate together with Channel 16.
HW Portsmouth is 11.57 BST on Tuesday 28th July and 13.44 BST on Friday 31st.
