Bembridge Rally August Bank Holiday 2015

Published 01:00 on 5 Sep 2015

Well, as the weekend approached the weather forecast was "interesting" however 14 boats arrived out of the original 17 registered, with Tim & Jenni on "Sparkling Spirit" weather-bound in Guernsey, "Tessera" having an engine problem just as they were setting off on the rally and one cancellation. The Bembridge Harbour staff, led by Kial, did an excellent job of knitting all the boats on to the pontoon and by Saturday mid-afternoon we were all safely moored.

Saturday night was planned as a BBQ although the weather wasn't looking great, light airs, warm ....... and thunderstorms in the distance! The rain started as we walked up to the designated BBQ area, a lovely spot, made extra lovely by the large marquee and seating provided by the Harbour (this is bookable in advance for rallies and is provided at no extra charge). Oh my, did it rain! The chaps were sent out to the BBQ to cook the food in the rain whilst the ladies looked on (and had a glass or two). Once the food was eaten the evening turned into one of those delightful impromptu moments with my small music device, brought along for a little background music, suddenly being turned up full. Dancing broke out across the tent and there was even dancing on tables (Andy!). Altogether an excellent evening and enjoyed by all.

Sunday dawned to warm sunshine and many ventured out to explore the local area. The taxi service provided by the harbour is a short cut across to the beach on the south side and then it's just a short walk up the hill to Bembridge.

With the weather looking less promising on the BH Monday, a few of the boats decided to head back, the rest enjoyed a lovely evening but, as night fell, it rained, and it rained, and it rained ....and continued to do so all the following day.

Despite this, I think a successful rally. the boats taking part were:

Boat Name LOA Sail/Power

Now looking forward to the end of season rally at Cowes,

Brian
