Commodores Reception 23rd July 2022

It had been three years since we had held our Summer Party and in the meantime there were a lot of changes going on at Haslar Marina so it was not certain whether we would be able to hold our party there. We finally settled on The Hornet as the venue and once again they looked after us very well.

The weekend got off to a great start with one of our social gatherings at The Jetty Bar on the Friday night. This is the equivalent of meeting your friends at the pub but set in the marina of course. These evenings are proving to be quite popular and well certainly be holding them again. You dont have to book but if you do it lets other Club members know that youll be there. A lovely informal evening chatting about boats with friends: whats not to like!

The Party itself was on Saturday evening and was attended by over 30 Club members who all had a great time. The evening started with drinks and chatting on the veranda which was very pleasant. The warm weather of the heatwave, when temperatures in England exceeded 40 degrees C, was continuing so we had ditched any dress code for a more relaxed style so, for instance, there were many lovely Hawaiian shirts on display! Lots of old friends and some new ones and everyone just enjoyed mingling and catching up with each other.

The Hornet had laid on a lovely cold buffet for us which proved to be very popular. Our entertainment for the evening was provided by Derrick Ince, a local man and HYC member who sings and plays the guitar. Derrick made sure we had some gentle music to listen to whilst we eat and then once we had finished we were ready for some dancing. The evening flew by and everyone enjoyed themselves. Our Commodore, Jonathan Clare, stood up to say a few words of thanks and then it was back to dancing and chatting.

In summary, we had a great time and cant wait for the next chance to get together and enjoy ourselves.
