Lymington Rally 28-30th May 2016

Published 01:00 on 2 Jun 2016

This was our first ever venture to the Dan Bran Pontoon, an excellent location for a rally, just north of the entrance to Lymington Yacht Haven. This long pontoon is owned and run by the Lymington Harbour authority. It is connected to shore with water and power and offers a superb view of the river (albeit with the corresponding wash from the many vessels during the day).

The weather for the outbound passage was superb, with many of the 14 boats taking advantage of the warm sunshine and NNE winds by adding a day or two onto the start of the rally. By 1800 on the Saturday all the boats had arrived and a customary pontoon party was underway (the rally gathers - see picture on right) . This is a good opportunity for members old and new to get to know each other. We then made the short walk to the newly refurbished Mayflower Pub where an area of the restaurant had been set aside for HYC. Good food, excellent service and a good (but expensive) wine list made for a very sociable evening.

On Sunday we all awoke to another superb sailing day and, with a cooler and windier day forecast for Monday, nearly all of the participants decided to make the most of the weather and left to sail/motor back to Portsmouth. Of note the Commodore decide to sail back around the south of the IOW and reported a "spirited" sail via the Nab Tower!
