Monthly Social Gathering - Powder Monkey

A new venue this month for the Friday night social, the Powder Monkey on the seafront in Portsmouth harbour, opposite the Aircraft carriers moored across the water in Portsmouth Docks.
An invigorating walk from Haslar for me, worked up a bit of a thirst along the way and looked forward to meeting lots of HYC members old and new upon arrival….. but there ware none !
Are there two Powder Monkeys…… no I'm just a bit early !
We had a stretch of tables reserved for us and soon tens of thirsty yachties arrived.
Some were fresh from the Yarmouth and Poole rally with tales of beautiful sailing conditions, shallow waters, gentle groundings, swinging bridges and other shenanigans
The Powder Monkey offered an array of strangely named beers and a couple of lagers, all seemed to go down well. Food was available and some of the group ordered what looked like quality fare.
After much conversation we were joined at one end of the long line of 'reserved for yacht club' tables by a friendly group of four, who upon seeing our name badges asked if this was a Speed Dating event…..
A band then assembled and after some feedback music ensued.
A very pleasant evening !
