Yarmouth Bank Holiday Rally May 26
Published 09:56 on 11 May 2026
Eleven boats with 21 club members joined this May bank holiday rally. Blue Hoolie, Bonito, Forget Me Knot, Madness, Minalto, Misty Moon, Oceon Spirit, Seatangle, Sunhunter, Tichla and Wakatere.
Yarmouth Harbour hosted us and it was an excellent choice, arranged by Brian and Hilary. Restaurants being The Wheatsheaf and The Bugle.
We all arrived in due course Friday afternoon, mooring up seamlessly with all ready to grab a line and the gentle nudge from the harbour guys if requested. The Yarmouth harbour team really do meet and greet.
Prizes go to Ken on our Forget Me Knot for dropping his phone into the depths, and Peter on Blue Hoolie for taping his spinnaker pole to Brians fishing net to try and retrieve it. No luck!
Pontoon party No 1 was hosted on Bonito by Steve and Vizma. Thank you for tasty tapas.
Saturday morning and the harbour had really filled up, yachts rafting out 4 abreast. Rafting out is a great way to make new friends and climbing over each boat stretches muscles you forgot you had!
A diver had been deployed to bring up Kens phone. This created an amusing hour while other members toured the island by bus or on foot, working up an appetite and thirst for the evening ahead.
Pontoon party No 2 began and we all met on the pontoon. The green Haslar flags looked very smart. The Wheatsheaf not being too far away and it was a great evening. Walking back to our boats, we noted how calm and charming it all looked.
Sunday provided more time to enjoy the Island. Some members joined Charles at the Royal Solent Yacht Club and Matt the lovely barman gave the ladies empty bottles of Mermaid gin, table lamps to be made!
Pontoon party No 3 began before the meal at The Bugle. Sailors love to talk, drink and eat.
An early start on Monday morning was required to catch the tide. A higgledy convoy left and a very calm windless sea got us all safely back to Haslar and Gosport.
Thank you Brian and Hilary, we all appreciate the work that goes into these rallies, and thanks to all the committee of course.
To finish, these get togethers are a great opportunity to meet like-minded boating enthusiasts, always helpful and keen to give up time with advice and knowledge. Personally, I feel sailing in a club adds to your horizons and being with a group gives you valuable insight into other sailing experiences. Remember there is always Plan B.
