New Members - Sea View Rally May 26

The New Members and Berth Holders Rally was one of those wonderfully relaxed sailing events that reminds you why being part of the club is so enjoyable. With good company throughout the day, the event brought together just under 30 attendees: a mix of new and existing members of the club, plus some welcome guests.
We were blessed with sunshine as the day began and boats made their own way across the Solent towards Seaview on the Isle of Wight. The destination at Sea View Yacht Club was a fantastic choice and somewhere many of us had been keen to visit. Arriving a little before midday, we were met by the launch team who directed us to our moorings whilst we awaited the arrival of the other vessels. Whilst unable to provide assistance to those approaching bouys, those already moored could enjoy picking up tips by watching others mastering the use of the infamous boat hook. The water-taxi service to the shore could not have been easier (and also a little exciting for those not accustomed to such speed!)
Lunch at the Sea View YC was welcoming and excellent. Sitting under cover to eat together at a long table, we enjoyed a friendly atmosphere that gave everyone plenty of opportunity to chat, swap stories and get to know new faces .
The relaxed format worked well, allowing members to arrive at Seaview at their own pace and enjoy the crossing without any time pressure.
After lunch, some members went for a wander around Seaview until eventually all boats made their way back to their home berths. With a slight change in conditions, the Solent provided an enjoyable sail home for those that had left promptly. For those like ourselves who were 'last out to play', the rain clouds gently made their presence known on deck in the latter part of the afternoon, but the day had been well worth it.
Back at Haslar Marina, the social side of the day continued with the 'bring a drink' gathering for those that could attend. The Gosport Marine Festival taking place nearly provided a nautical backdrop of sea shanties, refreshments and family festivities.
For those staying on into Sunday, the visit to the Hovercraft Museum at Lee-on-the-Solent would have rounded off the weekend perfectly and added an interesting local maritime twist to the event.
