Beaulieu Rally - September 29th/30th 2012
Published 01:00 on 5 Oct 2012
Once again the weather gods smiled kindly down on us. With a brisk NW/SW wind on the Saturday and an increasing W/NW wind for the return on the Sunday, some spririted sailing was enjoyed by the 7 yachts. These were joined by 6 motor boats giving us our usual near perfect 50/50 split of power and sail.

Most boats arrived on the tide Saturday lunchtime and Tallulah did a brisk trade as the fleet tea/coffee shop, enjoying the afternoon sun and the company of friends old and new. With dinghies duly inflated/launched, at around 5.30 we all made our way ashore to the pub at the Master Builders Hotel where we ate from their BBQ menu. Although a function room has been organised we decided to stay in the cosy surrounding of the pub and the evening progressed until a careful return to the boats at around 10.30 (apart from Terry from "Lion's Den" who decided to nearly fall out of a dinghy not once, but twice! A wet head but no harm done). Various social sessions then continued throughout the fleet on members boats.
Sunday saw the departure of all boats with one or two staying for lunch and taking advantage of the high spring tides to take their dinghies up to Beaulieu village for lunch at the Montague Arms.
Footnote - Terry and Jill Squire joined their first HYC rally and sadly after cycling to Beaulieu specifically to draw money to pay their membership and buy two of our new club polo shirts, Jill fell off her bike and broke her ankle. She was taken by ambulance to Southampton General Hospital and kept in overnight. My thanks to Reg Gigg for jumping ship from "Athena" and helping us get Aquabat back to her home port at Swanwick. We wish Jill a speedy recovery.
