East Cowes Rally - October 4th/5th 2014
Published 01:00 on 20 Oct 2014
Well, what a weekend it was. We started with 23 boats and 48 people booked on the rally. In the event two had to cancel due to unforeseen personal issues and one through illness. However, we ended up with 42 people and 20 boats, a new record for the club.
Although the Rally was planned for the Saturday/Sunday, a number of members arrived on Friday and, as number grew, your events team swung into action and organised the Folly Waterbus to take 21 people to The Folly Inn for dinner and music. And yes, we did dance on the tables.
Saturday dawned and we all ran for cover as an unpleasant front blew through. By midday this had cleared and the weather settled offering superb sailing conditions as the rest of the fleet made their way in. By 1700 all were safely tied up and our pontoon party was followed by a Sally Taxi ride, in their 40 seater vintage craft, upstream to the Island Sailing Club.
The ISC, as ever, provided excellent service and food and we thanked Phillip and his team, departing back to the boats around 2230.
Sunday was again a glorious day and we all made our way back to home berths.
Just one further note. Although East Cowes Marina still charge Dean & Reddyhoff berth holders for Saturday night until 1st November, Mike, the Marina Manager, graciously waved the fees for the rally. A big thank you to him and the Dean & Reddyhoff organisation.
