Easter Rally to Lymington April 2022 (2)

Easter Rally at The Royal Lymington Yacht Club.

Friday 15 Sunday 17 April 2022

We couldn't have asked for better weather for the Easter Rally at Lymington berthing at Berthon Marina. It was a 2/3 day event and 9 boats pitched up for the get together with 22 on-board for the weekend festivities.  As always, there were a few last minute changes to the names list as the dreaded virus struck a few of us before the day but that made way for reserves who were keen to be included too. Sadly, Stephen and Deborah Burder on Vin Rouge had to cancel, so Ian & Sharon McGregor on Fruitbat joined in and who also brought their son and daughter-in law to the gathering.

The weekend event kicked off on the Friday evening with a pontoon party followed by a sumptuous dinner at The Royal Lymington Yacht Club on the Saturday evening.  The club did us proud at dinner and participants could choose from a two course or a three course meal including: ham hock terrine or roast tomato tart for starters followed by chicken or belly pork or a vegetarian option of sweet potato falafels. Our dessert choices were either a creamy vanilla panna cotta or a zesty lemon tart all finished nicely with tea or coffee.

The highlight of the evening however was the appearance of the full Pink Moon which occurred on 16th April and which we could all view clearly from the perfectly placed club balcony. It was a sight to delight us all and although the wind was still a little chilly as the sun went down, some of us took the opportunity to take some lasting memories with i-phones and cameras to record the stunning occasion.

Lymington has lots to offer especially if youre keen on bird watching or photography as the Lymington Nature Reserve is adjacent to the marinas and offers a healthy hike around the marshes. Dennis and I biked around the circuit and spotted a wide variety of wading birds including the snow-white Egret, fancy Ducks, Oysters Catchers, Avocets and of course Black Headed Gulls to name just a few.

A highly recommended and great social occasion for the Haslar Yacht Club. Many thanks to the Committee for arranging a memorable trip.
