Friday Night Social - 29th September

The Last of this seasons Friday Socials

It was great to see so many members and some new faces take part in the last Friday social gathering of the HYC clan on Friday 29th September, very kindly hosted by Jackie and David Thacker on their magnificent Grand Banks 42, Mascaret, berthed on D pontoon.

Mascaret was big enough to accommodate all of us around 25 perhaps within her saloon and aft deck. In summer time there is plenty of space on the top deck too. A true party boat! With the covers down, we were spared the rigours of a pontoon party as there was a distinct autumn chill about and the evenings were drawing in.

Jackie and David had laid in plenty to drink, with nibbles to soak it up, although some of us remembered to bring our own glasses and a contribution. Our hosts were happy to run on beyond the 2000 hrs watershed your correspondent left at twenty past, and it was still going strong.

Over the course of the season, starting in April, these socials have taken place every month, either on the last Friday, or one aligned with a club event such as a rally. They have been much appreciated The first took place at the Creek, and was well attended, but unfortunately the weather drove us from the deck into the main path between kitchen and restaurant neither fair for the staff or particularly comfortable. Subsequently we have managed to arrange space at the end of the bar on two occasions, but these did not unfortunately attract so much interest.

Stephen Burder has done most of the work organising these evenings, and the rest have taken place on D pontoon, around his and Deborahs Sealine S34 Vin Rouge, on the pontoon, and, on a wet night, on board.

But why is is it that D pontoon is the party pontoon: lets try to involve more of you next year?
