Folly weekend Rally 2025 (20 - 21 Sep 2025)

Published 15:52 on 26 Sep 2025

Choppy, gusty, 2 reefs in the main sail, and a steady 7knots, followed by a very warm welcome.

The Folly weekend rally, from Haslar Creek to the Medina River, Isle of Wight. This was our first event with HYC, joining just one week prior.

We were the 8th boat to arrive, and smoothly rafted next to Blue Moon, with a helping hand from skipper Jonathan and his first mate Jon. We were nestled behind Josselwasp and were surprised to see skipper Rick had an additional bird on board of the feathery kind!

Soon to follow was Kiwi, settling in behind us, and a perfect photo opportunity when I saw Mo posing at the bow well, actually she was preparing lines to raft, but I couldn't resist taking a snap.

Once all boats were safely moored on the floating pontoon, the weather went from sunny, to stormy winds, and a rain shower for good measure, then back to sunny in time for safe arrival drinks and pontoon-partying. Hosted by Jackie & David aboard the magnificent Mascaret, it was the first time I'd been on a motor boat, we spent time meeting and greeting, and Rick & Shirley's feathered friend also attended.

Next port of call, the Folly Inn for dinner. Great food and our waiter, Nathan, did a fantastic job calmly organising our large group for dinner. The chat, laughter, storytelling and chinking of glasses continued into the evening as the Autumn night sky fell dark. As first-timers on HYC, both Ade and I had the best time getting to know fellow sailors, listening and sharing adventures on the sea. We made our new presence known, not by our sailing skills, but by my annoying photography. I tried to capture as many of you as possible and managed to get you all in shot at the Folly Inn.
After dinner the slightly dubious singer in the Folly caught our attention for a song or two, but not long enough to stop us catching up with a Folly Taxi crowd, and the partying continued.

Thank you for your kindest hospitality, Jackie and David as I experienced my second time on a motor boat as we found ourselves back on board Mascaret, along with Jackie & Drew for a night cap.

Sunday morning started with the sun beaming through our portholes, and I took the opportunity to take a couple more snaps as our neighbouring boats left for the sail back.

Hope to join you all again on another HYC adventure on the sea.
