Lymington July 2021 - Report 1

Published 01:00 on 12 Aug 2021

The weekend of the planned rally to Lymington did not have the most favourable of forecasts and understandably, as the weekend got closer, numbers dropped. It has to be said that the rally leader also was not happy with the weather and took the tarmac option to attend the pontoon party and the dinner on the Saturday evening.

However there were two brave crews, Misty Moon and Blue Hoolie. . 'Misty Moon' left Haslar at noon, and experienced wind SW F5 gusting F6 and motored all the way to Lymington. The SW winds matched the forecast and apart from the sea being a little bouncy going past Gilkicker, the sea was slight all the way to Cowes. Once past Gurnard, the wind against tide took effect and it was fairly bouncy all of the way to Lymington. 'Misty Moon' arrived at Lymington and moored on the Dan Brown pontoon at 2:30 pm. On arrival they were behind 'Blue Moon' and crew who had already made the passage.

The weather was still threatening rain so with huge thanks to Brian and Hilary Masters, the pontoon party was able to take place as it was held on "Misty Moon". Three crews, Magenta, Lacewing and Blue Hoolie arrived by car for the pontoon party making 14 of us. As arranged, the pontoon party broke up at 19.00 and we reconvened at the Royal Lymington Yacht Club where the evening continued with a dinner.

Thanks to the team at RLYC who coped admirably with the changing numbers. The food was excellent and the service fantastic.

On the Sunday,'Blue Moon' left to return to Haslar, while 'Misty Moon' stayed for an extra day.

Fingers crossed that the weather for the next rally is better!
