Trafalgar Dinner, Royal Naval Submarine Museum, Gosport Friday 21st October 2011

And what a night it was! The evening commenced with tours on board the WWII submarine HMS Alliance. The museum manager, Andrew Poole, showed around two groups of around 20 people.
We also had the annual Trafalgar Rally visiting Haslar from the Portland Yacht Club and they all joined us for the event. They managed everything in moderation as tides dictated a 6.00 am start the following morning for their return to Portland!
After listening to a short introduction and then a brief overview of the RYA "Active Marina" programme from our guest from the RYA, Guy Malpas, we all enjoyed a sit down three course meal which included the "parading of the beef" and "ships of the line" accompanied by suitable riotous appreciation from all.
After dinner, courtesy of the RYA, we were entertained by none other than Mr Tom Cunliffe whom I'm sure needs no introduction. Tom really brought to life the story of the return of the despatches from the battle on board HMS Pickle.
Feedback from the members as they left the venue were extremely complementary and it would seem a good evening was had by all.
Perhaps another regular for the calendar?
