RYA Sea Survival Course 2017 - review

Having just attended the Sea Survival Course over the weekend I have to say what a great and informative course it was. The Course was booked through the Yacht Club (thank you Brian for arranging) via the new training school in Haslar called Bacchus Yachting. The instructor was called Phil Brown who was so so knowledgable, he is in fact the trainer for the army who actually trains their trainers.

The day was split into two, the morning session was the theory and the afternoon session was in the swimming pool about 2 miles from Haslar.

In the morning it was a chat scenario looking at various life jackets and buoyancy aides, safety equipment, talking about various conditions such as hyperthermia and other medical ailments and lastly equipment in life rafts. In addition Phil showed different videos which we also talked about such as the Fastnet Race and why and how they improved safety.

The afternoon session was really enjoyable. We went through many different training drills which included activating the life jackets and life rafts, how to right and get into the raft and various other tasks which we were given.

I can only say it was a truly enjoyable course. Hopefully I will never need to use what I learnt today but if I do at least I know I will be a lot more confident. Definitely a course to do.
