Easter Rally to Weymouth 2014

Published 01:00 on 25 Apr 2014

After the dreadful conditions last year, we were blessed with excellent weather for our rally to Weymouth. With some of the boats travelling down on Thursday and the others on Friday, we ended up with 8 boats safely tied up in Weymouth Marina. As often happens with our rallies, we had four motor and four sail - it's strange how that happens.

After a pontoon gathering on the Marina, the Saturday club dinner was held in "Harbour Lights" the newly refurbished and recently opened restaurant occupying the old "Boat That Rocks" building. The new management, Nigel and Ysanne (Celtic I'm told), did a great job serving an excellent 3 course meal. And an inexpensive taxi firm (Weyside Taxis) ferried us to and from Weymouth for just £3.50/person/return.

One of our members, Helen Velzian, was also celebrating a big birthday so a cake had been organised with a suitable rendition by all of the restaurant of the usual song!

Sunday turned out to be wet, wet, wet so 10 pin bowling, cinema and the local hostelries beckoned.

Most boats returned on the tide Easter Monday although Minimum and Icarus took the opportunity to extend their trip by a few days.

All in all a good time was had by all.
