HYC Christmas Party December 2021

The Haslar Christmas party was held at the premises of Hornet Sailing Club on the evening of Saturday 4th December 2021. Due to Covid concerns, numbers were slightly down this year but 25 members and their guests attended.

After our welcome drink on arrival, our newly elected commodore welcomed us all to our first Christmas party since December 2019 and what a long wait it seems to have been!

The staff at Hornet made us all very welcome, the tables were very festively decorated and there was laughter from the whistling balloons, crackers and tooters throughout the meal. Who knew we could all make such a noise when having fun? We sat down to a delicious three course meal and both during and after our meal, we were all very well entertained by Katy Kelly and her terrific voice.

After dinner Katys music encouraged, I think, most members to take to the dance floor. I know that I personally found it a fantastic start to the Christmas festivities and it was a lovely change to do something normal and to catch up with members.

At the end of the evening members dispersed with a number of us sleeping on our boats. The weather was absolutely terrible that evening and I dont think it was a restful quiet night for anyone in the marina although it did not spoil the evening.

Huge thanks to Stewart Velzian for organising the evening for us all, and for all the other events he has organised during his time as Events Officer and also to Helen Velzian for supporting him. Also thanks to the team at Hornet for giving us such a good evening and to Katy Kelly. This was Stewarts last event that he has organised for Haslar with Jem taking over at the AGM. No pressure Jem for next year.
