Chichester Rally - 21/21 May 2022
Sunshine, light wind and high pressure were forecast for the Chichester rally 21st-22ndMay. I had crewed for Charles Dingle aboard Wakatere during the brilliant Lymington rally at Easter. It was now my turn to host Charles aboard my Westerly Konsort Polar Bear. After an incident free departure from Haslar, we found ourselves drifting on the eastbound flood in hardly a breath of wind. We motorsailed for a good while, and, as we approached Horse sand

HYC - New Members Day
We left our Haslar berth at 1020 and quickly recognised Misty Moon right ahead of us as we motored out of Portsmouth and along the Inner Swashway. With a gentle breeze from the SE we decided to set sail off Gilkicker Point, but it did not take long before the sails were hanging limp and we were drifting in the tide, thankfully in the right direction. With no sign of any breeze,

Easter Rally to Lymington April 2022 (1)
Easter Rally in the Spring sunshine..............this felt more like summer! What a great Easter cruise to Lymington Berthon Marina. The unseasonal weather spoilt us with warm sunshine and very light winds, resulting in our engines doing all the work. Our sails only went up for a brief airing! 8 boats made it in the end after the dreaded virus unfortunately hit some crew plans. However, a number

Frostbite Rally to West Cowes 19-20th March
The first rally of the season is always an exciting one, and the Frostbite Rally was no exception. The weather conditions were never going to be a competitor for the more balmy weather that will come our way over the warmer months, but who needs higher temperatures to create enthusiasm? Certainly not the members of Haslar Yacht Club! There is a pent-up enthusiasm for experiences right now. After nearly two years

East Cowes Rally 9/10th October 2021
The End of Season Rally followed on from a very successful talk by Mike OMeara on 'Raising the Gold on HMS Edinburgh' on the Friday evening. On the Saturday morning, the fleet set sail for East Cowes. Although one boat had travelled across earlier in the week, most arrived by early afternoon. There was very little wind, so only one boat 'sailed' across. Well done to Jonathan and the crew of 'Blue Moon'.

Round the Island Cruise - 1 September 2021
The idea for this event came from our good friend and frequent crew member Julie who many of you know from various rallies over the years. Julie said she has always wanted to sail around the Island in a day, something I had done a couple of times in the Round The Island Race whilst crewing for Jonathan Clare on Blue Moon. I thought it would be good to tackle this on our boat Nemo,

Lymington July 2021 - Report 1
The weekend of the planned rally to Lymington did not have the most favourable of forecasts and understandably, as the weekend got closer, numbers dropped. It has to be said that the rally leader also was not happy with the weather and took the tarmac option to attend the pontoon party and the dinner on the Saturday evening. However there were two brave crews, Misty Moon and Blue Hoolie. . 'Misty Moon' left Haslar
