    East Cowes Rally 29 - 30 October 2016

With a continuation of the superb weather we have been enjoying, the rally was set fair to welcome the 25 boats that had registered to attend. We actually had 22 arrive as three our members had problems either mechanical or domestic. East Cowes marina performed their normal friendly efficient job of allocating berths, even accommodating one itinerant member who decided he wanted to berth at the other end of the marina from the rally (!)

  • Bembridge Rally 27-29th August 2016

Well, the weather gods were certainly kind to us for this rally! With some of the boats turning up in the sunshine as early as the Wednesday before the rally, and other on the Saturday evening of the BBQ, by 20.00 we were all safely tied up on the Duver pontoon and in the marquee loaned by Bembridge Harbour cooking our evening meal on their excellent BBQ facilities. The club also provided a case of

  • Channel Crossing Weekend 1-4 July - a view from member Jem Nichols on his first channel crossing

The build up to my first cross Channel trip was quite busy: I'd got together with the crew to sail to the Nab Tower as part of Gosport's Marine Festival a few weeks before. This gave us a chance to get to know each other and see how we could work together. The preparations carried on the week before going to France with Tuesday seeing the arrival and fitting of new sails, courtesy of Jeckells

  • Fort Blockhouse Tour 17 June 2016

Twenty-one of us gathered in the car park of the submarine museum on a cloudy but warm morning. There we met our guides, Clive Kydd and Dave "Knocker" White. Clive is also involved in the restoration and maintenance of Steam Pinnace 199, which can be viewed at Boat House 4 at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. I asked Dave how he came by the nickname "Knocker" and he said it attaches automatically in the Royal Navy if

  • Folly Inn Rally 18th 19th June 2016

Saturday morning started off bright and warm with boats arriving throughout the day. Those arriving were welcomed by a team of club members eagerly waiting to catch lines making mooring into the side on breeze a doddle. Entertainment was provided by a boat full of young stags dressed as sailors demonstrating drunken diving into the Medina. Such fun! With eleven boats and twenty-four people we had a good mix of old and new members

    Commodore's Reception 2016

When Dean and Reddyhoff suggested that they would like to sponsor an event for Haslar Yacht Club, nobody realised that we were embarking on one of our most ambitious and most successful events yet. Christened the 'Commodore's Reception' in memory of the dinner of the same name, this took place on the lawn at Haslar Marina on 4 th June 2016. D&R had erected a marquee, and hired equipment for us, as
